The 2 Rakkas Celebrated in Senegal.
Culture & Music of West Africa!
Today, the 2 rakkas annual pilgrimage is celebrated in Saint Louis, Senegal. More than a thousand Murids came from all corners of Senegal to attend the "takussan" prayer in the city main island. 2 Rakka symbolizes an unprecedented act of courage by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba on the same day 117 years ago.
Bamba, who was then considered as a possible threat to the colonial administration, refused to acknowledge the French authority and prayed in the Governor's office. He was later deported to Gabon for seven years. Bamba founded the Murid sufi brotherhood and established the city of Touba which is now the second largest city of Senegal!
Before and even one day after the events, there were some awesome disciples of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba called Baye Fall, wearing traditional clothes and with great dreadlocks saying prayers accompanied with traditional drum rhythms!
